Crab and Shrimp Day on Sapelo Island
June 25, 2019 @ 8:30 am - 2:30 pm
This fun and educational event, sponsored by Sapelo Island National Estuary Research Reserve (SINERR), gives participants the opportunity to visit Sapelo Island to learn about the life histories of Georgia’s blue crab and shrimp, as well as the local crab and shrimp industries that are a notable part of the coastal economy.
Participants will enjoy an educational session and be given the opportunity to pull seine nets on the beach to capture these two species (and other fish and invertebrates) first-hand. The program will end with a traditional shrimp boil luncheon.
Participants are asked to bring a side dish to share. Reservations are required, and tickets cost $20 for adults (ages 13+) and $10 for children. Participants will depart the mainland on board the 8:30 AM ferry and return on the 2:30 PM ferry.
